SewAID Team prepares for Cambodia
Our volunteer teachers team of Fay Kitto (Team Leader) right, Tina Latham, Kim Fitzpatrick and Deryl Mason, spent the day with me at SSS Pty Ltd yesterday preparing for their trip to Cambodia at the end of January. It was a very busy day, going over all aspects of the project to establish a SewAID Workshop at Sustainable Cambodia, Pursat, Central Cambodia.

Their objective this trip is twofold, firstly to teach the sewers there how to make Days for Girls kits, and start them on their way to making an order of 500 DFG kits being financed by the Rotary Club of Ryde., and secondly to show the sewers at Sustainable Cambodia how to make up-market goods that can be sold in the top tourist shops, and to also assist them to establish a sales outlet in Siem Reap.
Fay and Deryl are members of the Days For Girls team at Ryde and Kim and Tina head up the Days for Girls team at Avoca Beach. Fay and Tina are also Rotarians.

The fabric to make 700+ kits was purchased in Thailand and now has been successfully shipped over the border to Pursat. The PUL special waterproof fabric was not available, so we gave the ladies 40m, for them cut into smaller portions and pack in their bags. , along with rotary mats, cutters, scissors etc as well as 500 zip lock bags that weren’t available in S.E. Asia at a suitable price. Other products for the DFG kits will be purchased locally in Cambodia. Singapore Airlines kindly approved 10kgs each extra luggage allowance.

We were also fortunate that Fabian , the Sales Manager from Janome Sewing Machines happened to be visiting the company yesterday and when we introduced these lovely enthusiastic ladies to him, and explained what they were doing – a request for 2 new overlockers to take with them- was met with a “done” . Thanks Janome ! Janome are very generous in supporting SewAID with machines from time to time, so the ladies will also be carrying two new Janome overlockers with them this trip.
